An old Slovak proverb says: "Let the householder rule in the garden and the housekeeper in the chamber." The correctness of this statement can be checked with your own eyes on Saturday 20.8. This year's will Trnavská brána include the premiere of the event "Courtyard of Magic Threads" - a festival of embroidery and lace, during which the Courtyard (Nádvorie) will come alive with the chatter of craftswomen dressed in historical costumes, the gentle clatter of wooden sticks, the glitter of needles and the colours of threads.
Thirty lacemakers all in one place
The creation of this small festival was conditioned by the increased interest of craftsmen and visitors: for several years now, during the Trnvská brána several craftswomen not only demonstrate their work, but also teach those interested in the actual creation of embroidery and lace. The proof of great interest between the artisans is the rich participation - about thirty artists from different parts of Slovakia, but also from Moravia and Czech Republic will present their skills and know-how.
In addition, the programme in the Courtyard will include the opportunity to learn embroidery and lace-making techniques. You will be presented with the opportunity to take away handmade souvenirs and many pleasant and amusing experiences from the rich cultural programme, such as: a fashion show of costumes and period garments decorated with folk ornaments or lectures on embroidery and lace-making.
