Jiskra from Plzeň will sparkle in Trnava

The Jiskra song and dance ensemble will come to Trnava from Plzeň. Their repertoire includes several dozens of choreographies related to various celebratory or ordinary events in people's lives. You can meet SPT Jiskra at numerous events in the Czech Republic, at a folklore festival in Croatia, but most importantly soon at Trnavská brána!

Jiří Bísek, a member and representative of the ensemble, told us some interesting facts about Jiskra

Did you know...?

"The Jiskra Song and Dance Ensemble was founded in 1958. It consists of dance, music and singing components. Since its foundation, it has been processing folklore material from south-west Bohemia - its repertoire includes folk songs and dances from the Plzen, Zinkov and Chodsko regions." The folk music is based on original "štrajch" and music, and draws inspiration for the music and dance from ethnographic collections from given geographical areas, with individual programmes based on traditional expressions of seasonal and domestic customs.

The folk music ensemble cooperates with the Czech Radio Plzen and the whole ensemble has been presented several times on Czech television. "During its existence it has made hundreds of performances on both local and foreign stages and participated in festivals in various countries around the world. Jiskra is the main co-organizer of the International Folklore Festival CIOFF® Plzen," concludes Jiří Bísek. Experienced folklorists cannot be missing at any good festival, source: SPT Jiskra
