Musician from Terchová, about whom we will definitely hear a lot

Martin Repáň comes from the heart of Slovakia - from Terchová. You may recognise the his name from the prestigious competition Zem spieva, which he won in 2018. His love for music was raised by his parents and today he is developing his potential by studying at the conservatory in Žilina. He will come to Trnava together with his siblings in the Repáňoská muzika formation.

"I have been into music since early childhood, I come from a very musical and folklore-based family."

Martin's musical passion was awakened by his parents. His father, also a heligonist, and his mother, who taught him the basics of singing. He definitely decided to take up the musical scepter at the time when his father lost his arm in a car accident. "I still remember sitting on the couch and watching my father play Terchová songs. One day, I walked into the room where my father was playing and saw a small heligonka. My first thought was to try it out and see what it would do. I started to stretch it from side to side, trying to play a song. That's when my parents saw the potential in me and signed me up for heligonka music lessons. Along with that, my mom taught me how to sing. Later, my father had a very serious car accident in which he lost his arm. I realised that he wouldn't be able to play anymore and that's when I said I would follow in his steps," says Martin.

He is currently studying music professionally at the Žilina Conservatory, where he is expanding and deepening his knowledge

The audience reacts to Martin's performance very positively. Despite his successes, he does not rest and enjoy the success, he is constantly improving his musical knowledge. "I am very pleased that people like my performance and interpretation. Thanks to this gift, I can show what is in me, what I enjoy and what I have been doing since childhood. I have gained a lot of experience, I have learned to explore new genres. I have also met a lot of excellent and good musicians and especially people with whom I get along very well. Since I am currently studying at the conservatory in Žilina, I have an overview of other musical genres. As a young person, however, I can't avoid the modern genre either and I always play it, whether in private or at concerts."

"We are coming to Trnava together with my siblings. We come directly from Terchová and we process mostly music from our surroundings and together we create Repáňovská music. In many of our compositions you can feel the "Heart of Terchová", but we are also trying to develop our own style," concludes Martin Repáň.
